Balanced Texas State whips Texas Lutheran 101-60

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) — Texas State placed six players in double figures Friday night in a season-opening 101-60 victory over Division III Texas Lutheran.

The Bobcats’ Brooks Ybarra led all scorers with 18 points, and Matt Staff had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Eddie Rios added 17 points, Travis Jones 13 and John Bowman and Gordon Ball 10 apiece.

Michael Flores and Brendan Potts scored 13 points each for the Bulldogs.

Texas State bolted to an 8-0 lead and had scored 38 by the time Texas Lutheran reached double figures, which happened when Flores hit two free throws to make it 38-11 with 6:39 left in the first half. The Bobcats’ lead swelled to 51 midway through the second half.

Texas State had 54 rebounds to Texas Lutheran’s 31

The game was considered an exhibition for the Bulldogs.
