CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Chris Braswell scored 19 points and had 12 rebounds and DeMario Mayfield chipped in with 17 points to lead Charlotte to 73-57 victory over North Carolina Central Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Braswell, a 6-foot-9 senior forward, was 7 for 10 from the field and dominated inside the paint, where the 49ers outrebounded the Eagles 45-29.

The 49ers led by one at the break, but began to assert themselves early in the second half. They got nine quick points from Braswell and Mayfield to help build a double-digit lead they held for most of the second half.

Dominique Sutton, a transfer from Kansas State, led NC Central with 15 points and 12 rebounds, but struggled from free throw line where he went 1-for-11.
