College of Charleston blitzes Holy Cross 78-69

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Antwaine Wiggins scored 18 points to lead four College of Charleston players in double figures as the Cougars defeated Holy Cross 78-69 Friday night in the teams’ opener.

Andrew Lawrence added 16 points, Trent Wiedman had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Adjehi Baru contributed 11 points for the Cougars, who also beat the Crusaders last season in their only previous meeting.

Charleston raced to a 22-6 lead in the opening 6:31 and led 40-19 at halftime. The Cougars’ lead remained in double digits in the second half until the final 1:07 and never got below nine.

The Cougars made 10 of 14 free throws in the first half to Holy Cross’ 3 of 4. They also made 4 of 10 first-half shots from 3-point range to the Crusaders’ 0 for 6.

R.J. Evans scored 16 points and Devin Brown and Dave Dudzinski had 14 each for Holy Cross.
