Coppin State defeats Cheyney 80-65

BALTIMORE (AP) — Tony Gallo scored 17 points and Akeem Ellis tallied a double-double, leading Coppin State to an 80-65 win over Division II Cheyney on Friday night.

Ellis scored 16 points and grabbed 10 boards for the Eagles, who outrebounded the Wolves just 34-33 but forced 14 turnovers en route to victory.

Coppin State shot 49.2 percent (29 of 59) from the floor compared to a 35.5 percent (22 of 62) mark for the Wolves. The Eagles were also 10 of 25 from 3-point range, including four 3s by Gallo.

Cheyney was just 5 of 29 from beyond the arc.

The Eagles went on an 11-2 run to take a 42-23 lead with 5:00 left in the first half. Lee and Ellis each had four points during the run, which gave the Eagles their largest lead of the first period.

Jason Sabb scored 26 points to lead Cheyney.
