Detroit thumps Lake Erie 95-57 in season opener

DETROIT (AP) — Chase Simon scored 24 points while Nick Minnerath added 23 to lift Detroit to a 95-57 victory over Lake Erie on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

The Titans, opening at home for the first time since 2007, pulled out to a 48-20 lead at halftime and never looked back. They shot 37 for 62 from the floor and outrebounded the Storm 42-29.

Minnerath, who shot 9 for 12 from the field and 4 for 4 from the free-throw line, led the game in rebounds with eight while Doug Anderson pulled down seven for the Titans.

Rich Austin led the Division II Storm with 21 points. Nate Tait added 10.

Ray McCallum scored 15 points for the Titans and made a game-high seven assists. Anderson and Jason Calliste added 10 points each.
