Crews put out a fire early Friday at the Robinwood Apartments in the Harney Heights neighborhood near Fourth Plain Boulevard.

Firefighters were called to the apartments at 3311 E. 18th St. at 3:28 a.m., said Joe Spatz, a Vancouver Fire Department spokesman. Engine 3 arrived at 3:33 a.m. and crews found heavy smoke in an apartment on the first floor, he said.

The fire was controlled and contained to the one apartment, Spatz said. Four engines, one ladder truck and two battalion chiefs responded.

All three residents of the apartment got out safely. Two were able to stay with friends. The Red Cross came to help residents of nearby apartments, he said.

There is no damage estimate at this time and the fire is still under investigation.
