La Salle sinks Lafayette 79-53 in season opener

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Tyreek Duren had 17 points to lead four double-figure scorers for La Salle in an easy 79-53 win over Lafayette in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.

Earl Pettis scored 16 points, Taylor Dunn had 12 and Sam Mills added 10 for the Explorers. Devon White’s nine rebounds and Jerrell Wright’s three blocks also led the Explorers.

Duren also chipped in six assists and four steals.

The Explorers shot 49.2 percent (30 of 61) from the floor and held the Leopards to just a 36 percent (18 of 50) mark. They also outrebounded Lafayette 44-27 in the game.

From 3-point range, La Salle was 9-for-16 compared to a 3-for-10 performance by Lafayette.

La Salle built a 23-point halftime advantage and outscored Lafayette 36-33 in the second half to seal it.

Jim Mower scored 12 points and Dan Trist added 10 for the Leopards.
