SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Spokane police chief Anne Kirkpatrick is stepping down effective Jan. 2.
Kirkpatrick has been criticized for her handling of the investigation of the death of Otto Zehm at the hands of police officers. She has recently been applying for jobs in other cities.
Kirkpatrick became Spokane police chief in September 2006. She said she is looking forward to the next chapter in her life and plans to spend more time with her family.
