VCU holds off St. Francis (Pa.) 63-57

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Troy Daniels and Juvonte Reddic combined for 41 points and 16 rebounds to lead Virginia Commonwealth to a season-opening 63-57 victory against St. Francis (Pa.) on Friday night.

Daniels and Reddic posted career-highs in points and rebounds. Daniels knocked down five 3-pointers en route to a team-high 22 points, while grabbing six boards and two steals. Reddic recorded his first career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

VCU led 36-37 at halftime but St. Francis fought back to within three, 58-55, with 46 seconds to play thanks to a Umar Shannon 3-pointer.

Daniels hit a 3-pointer of his own on VCU’s next possession to secure the victory.

Shannon led all scorers with 26 points, but no other St. Francis player scored over eight points.

The win was the ninth straight home-opening victory for the Rams.
