CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Ahmad Starks had 16 points and six steals, Joe Burton added 16 points and four steals and Oregon State defeated Cal State Bakersfield 86-62 Saturday in the season opener for both teams.
Jared Cunningham added 15 points and five steals for the Beavers, who jumped out to a big lead and were never really challenged. The Beavers led by as many as 26 points and the Roadrunners got within 10 points only once. Oregon State shot 54 percent and had 19 steals as a team.
Issiah Grayson had 15 points to lead Bakersfield. Rashad Savage added 11 points. Stephon Carter, who led the Roadrunners in scoring last year at 14.3 points per game, had just six points on 1-of-8 shooting and five turnovers before fouling out. Bakersfield shot 45 percent from the field.
