STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Freshman Trey Lewis scored 17 points in his Penn State debut, two more players scored in double figures and the Nittany Lions won coach Patrick Chambers’ first game Saturday, 70-55 over Hartford.
Tim Frazier, the lone returning starter from last year’s NCAA tournament team, tallied 16 for Penn State and Cammeron Woodyard added 14.
For Hartford, freshman Wes Cole was the lone scorer in double figures, with 12 points on 4 of 11 shooting. Senior Maciel Genesis and freshman Mark Nwakamma added eight points each.
Penn State opened a 32-22 lead by halftime and led the Hawks by as many as 26 late in the game.
It was a nice debut for Chambers, who took over after Ed DeChellis resigned in May to take the same job at Navy.
