RUSTON, La. (AP) — Trevor Gaskins scored 17 points and Cordarius Johnson had a big second half in Louisiana Tech’s 92-70 win over Mississippi College on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.

Gaskins, a transfer guard from Ole Miss, scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half and helped the Bulldogs hold off pesky Mississippi College and enter halftime with a 39-33 lead.

Louisiana Tech went on a 31-15 run in the second half to give them a 70-48 lead with 9:46 remaining to play. Johnson scored all of his points in the second half and 11 of them during the run.

Mississippi College started well, shooting 43 percent (13 for 30) from the field and entered halftime only trailing by six. But the Division III Choctaws had too many defensive lapses, allowing Louisiana Tech to shoot 55.3 percent from the field in the second half.
