FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Sherwood Brown scored 19 points off the bench and Florida Gulf Coast defeated Ave Maria 79-65 on Monday night.
The Eagles (1-1) scored 37 points off the bench as 10 players scored and 11 saw action.
Brett Comer added 17 points, Christophe Varidel 11 and Bernard Thompson 10 for Florida Gulf Coast.
The Eagles scored 24 points off 16 Ave Maria turnovers, and shot 51.7 percent from the field (31 of 60). Florida Gulf Coast led just 31-27 at halftime, but went 6 of 8 from 3-point range in the second half, in which they led by as many as 21.
The Gyrenes, of the NAIA, were 21 of 58 from the field (36.2 percent), and saw the Eagles grab most of the misses. Florida Gulf Coast outrebounded the Gyrenes 44-27.
Kiel Lewis led Ave Maria with 20 points, Matt Chattin added 12 and Dylan Fugate 12.
