Charleston Southern defeats Bluefield 88-64

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Kelvin Martin had 18 points, 17 rebounds, five blocks and five steals to lead Charleston Southern over Bluefield 88-64 on Tuesday night.

Saah Nimley added 16 points and five assists for the Buccaneers (1-2), who took a 52-25 lead at halftime.

Charleston Southern shot 51.5 percent from the field (34 of 66) after going a combined 39 of 129 (21 percent) in their previous two games — losses at Kansas State and Wichita State.

Against the Rams of the NAIA, who counted it as an exhibition, the Buccaneers scored 28 points off 22 turnovers, and outscored Bluefield 42-30.

Cedrick Bowen added 13 points, Jeremy Sexton 12 and Theron Stephens 11 for the Buccaneers, who led by as many as 31 points, 60-29, with 16:25 to play.

Byron Carpenter led the Rams with 24 points. Kearsten Marion added 18 and Andrew Wilson had 10 for Bluefield.
