DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Corvette Racing unveiled the new 2012 Daytona prototype on Tuesday at Daytona International Speedway.
It's the first Daytona prototype body built by a manufacturer. Its first test will be Wednesday at Daytona.
The Corvette DP will have four teams next season -- Bob Stallings Racing; Wayne Taylor Racing; Sprit of Daytona Racing and Action Express Racing.
The car will make its racing debut in the 50th anniversary of the GRAND-Am Rolex 24 at Daytona in January.
Jim Campbell of Chevrolet says sports cars and endurance racing is the perfect platform for manufacturers to develop cars. The new car incorporates Corvette styling cues and is recognizable to sports car enthusiasts.
