Eastern Washington beats South Dakota 70-61

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Collin Chiverton scored 25 points and coach Jim Hayford earned his first win at Eastern Washington, a 70-61 victory over South Dakota on Tuesday night.

Cliff Ederaine added 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Eagles (1-1), who pulled away late in the first half. Charlie Westbrook scored 16 points and Brandon Bos 10 for the Coyotes (0-2).

Behind 5-0 to start, Eastern Washington responded with a 20-6 burst started by Cliff Colimon’s driving layup. A three-point play by Ederaine capped a 10-0 run late in the first half that pushed the Eagles’ lead to 38-22.

South Dakota never got closer than 10 until the game’s final seconds.

Ederaine made all six of his shot attempts and added five assists for Eastern Washington.
