Man, woman killed in west Spokane mobile home fire

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- Spokane firefighters battled three residence fires before dawn Wednesday and the most serious blaze killed two people.
The fire before 5 a.m. killed a man and woman in a mobile home near Inland Empire Way and 20th Avenue.
Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer told The Spokesman-Review (http://bit.ly/vxhP85 ) the first firefighter on the scene saw heavy smoke. One occupant was taken from the home, but died outside. The second occupant was found closer to the source of the fire and could not be resuscitated.
A fire at another home about a half-hour earlier forced a family to evacuate.
Another fire around 6:30 a.m. occurred in a residence converted to three apartments.
Smoke alarms alerted residents to escape. The Red Cross is helping the displaced families.
