Sacred Heart pulls away from Stony Brook 74-63

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Stan Dulaire and Justin Swidowski scored 14 points apiece and all five Sacred Heart starters scored in double figures in a 74-63 nonconference victory over Stony Brook on Tuesday night.

Chris Evans added 11 points, including five during a 13-3 run late in the first half, when the Pioneers (2-0) took a 32-23 lead.

The Seawolves (1-2) got within two, 44-42, with 13:46 remaining and within three, 48-45, on Leonard Hayes’ 3-pointer at the 11:24 mark. But Sacred Heart ran off the next nine points on baskets by Dulaire, Evans and Steve Glowiak and a 3-pointer by Phil Gaetano.

Shane Gibson and Evan Kelly also scored 11 points each for Sacred Heart.

Dallis Joyner led Stony Brook with 11 points. Hayes and Tommy Brenton scored 10 each.

The Pioneers, who had 53 rebounds in their season-opening win over Hartford, outrebounded Stony Brook 39-28.
