The search for an overdue hunter in Skamania county will continue Tuesday, Undersheriff Dave Cox said.

David Sherwood, 56, of Onalaska went elk hunting Friday morning and was scheduled to return home Friday evening. His car was found midday Saturday near the end of a spur road off Forest Service 2612 in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Cox said.

Search efforts will continue Tuesday at 9 a.m. Ground personnel and aircraft, weather permitting, requested through the Washington State Department of Emergency Management will help with the search effort.

“We are hopeful the break in the weather will allow us to utilize aircraft to assist with the ground search efforts today” Cox said in a release.

More than 80 family, friends and search personnel have combed the area since Saturday to find Sherwood, Cox said.
