Tennessee State sinks NAIA Fisk 80-57

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Robert Covington scored 22 points to lead Tennessee State over Fisk University of the NAIA 80-57 on Wednesday night.

Kenny Moore added 16 points and Kellen Thomas chipped in 10 for the Tigers (1-2), who had to overcome an early deficit to claim victory.

Fisk led 14-11 midway through the opening half, but Moore hit a 3-pointer to help spark a 20-0 run to put Tennessee State up by 14 points at the break. The Tigers would not trail again, and outscored Fisk 49-40 in the second half to seal it.

Tennessee State edged Fisk from the floor, outshooting the NAIA squad 38.4 percent (28 of 73) to 36 percent (18 of 50).

The Tigers outrebounded Fisk 53-30 and also tallied 12 steals.

Darrell Miller was the only Fisk player in double figures, scoring 17 points.
