Mount Hood Meadows plans Saturday opening

Mount Hood Meadows plans to open for the season on Saturday with limited operations.

Buttercup and Easy Rider chairlifts are scheduled to operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but more lifts may be added depending on snow conditions, said Dave Tragethon, executive director of communications, on Thursday.

The resort will announce chairlift ticket pricing for Saturday by Friday afternoon.

Mount Hood Meadows has 19 inches of snow, with more depth at higher elevations. Saturday’s opening is dependent on more snow. The forecast calls for a foot or more by Saturday.

“Early season conditions exist, with good to thin coverage on the groomed runs, with exposed grass, rocks,” according to Tragethon. “Skiers and snowboarders should be aware of unmarked obstacles.”

With enough additional snow, the high-speed quad chairlifts including the new Stadium Express might open by Saturday or Sunday, he added.

Stadium Express will be Mount Hood Meadows’ first new chairlift since 2005.

The bottom terminal is much closer to the lodge than the old Stadium chair. The top terminal is on the ridge near the top of Heather lift. This will improve access to north areas including Heather Canyon, Shooting Star and Hood River Meadows.
