S. Utah holds off Montana State-Billings 63-60

CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) — Ramell Taylor had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Jackson Stevenett hit the go-ahead basket with 38 seconds remaining Thursday night as Southern Utah defeated Montana State-Billings 63-60.

Stevenett’s jumper broke a 58-58 tie, and the Thunderbirds (3-1) hit 3 of 6 free throws down the stretch to hold off the Yellowjackets (2-2).

Stevenett finished with 11 points and nine rebounds; Ray Jones Jr. added 11 points and eight rebounds; and Matt Massey had 10 points for Southern Utah. The Thunderbirds were 0 for 5 on 3-point attempts but shot 44 percent from the field overall.

Antoine Proctor had 16 points and Jaxon Myaer 11 for Montana State-Billings, a Division II school. The Yellowjackets were 2 for 19 on 3-point attempts, but one of those made 3-pointers came from Myaer with 1:40 remaining. Robert Mayes added two free throws with 50 seconds left that tied the game at 58.
