Georgia Southern eases past NAIA Webber 84-61

STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) -- Eric Ferguson scored 18 points to lead Georgia Southern over NAIA Webber International 84-61 on Friday night.

Jelani Hewitt added 13 points and Tre' Bussey chipped in 12 for the Eagles (1-2), who outshot the Warriors 51.5 percent (34 of 66) to just 32.8 percent (19 of 58) in the win.

Ferguson started the game with a jumper and a dunk, and Hewitt followed with a pair of 3-pointers for a 10-2 game-opening run for Georgia Southern. The Eagles pushed the run to 24-7 at one point, and led by 28 points at the break.

Webber outscored Georgia Southern 38-33 in the second half, but never really got close.

The Eagles outrebounded the Warriors 43-28 and hit 9 of 20 3-pointers (45 percent). Webber was only 2 of 17 (11.8 percent) from long range.

Yorel Scaggs led the Warriors (2-6) with 13 points as their only player in double figures.
