FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Freshman James Douglas scored 18 points and Stallon Saldivar added a career-high 17 as Northern Arizona avoided its first 0-4 start in 21 years with a 103-42 victory over Arizona Christian on Friday night.
Durrell Norman had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Lumberjacks (1-3), who last began a season 0-4 in 1990. That team finished 4-23. Colin Gruber and Ephraim Ekanem also hit double figures for Northern Arizona with 13 and 11, respectively.
Jared Culbert scored nine points for the Firestorm (1-4), an NAIA school formerly known as Southwestern.
The Lumberjacks had a 49-18 rebounding advantage and shot 72 percent in the second half to coast to their 33rd straight regular-season victory over a non-Division I opponent.
Northern Arizona, which never trailed, gained separation with a 14-0 run early in the first half. The Lumberjacks led 47-20 at halftime, and the lead touched 61 in the second half.
