AMSTERDAM (AP) — Haile Gebrselassie has won a 15-kilometer race in the Netherlands, an indication his fitness is returning after his recovery from respiratory problems that forced him to drop out of the Berlin Marathon two months ago.

Gebrselassie’s victory in Sunday’s Seven Hills Race around the city of Nijmegen was a confidence boost as he attempts to make the Ethiopian team for next year’s London Olympics. He completed the course in 42 minutes, 42 seconds.

Gebrselassie announced last week he plans to run the Tokyo Marathon in February.

Gebrselassie won Olympic gold medals in the 10,000 meters in 1996 and 2000. He also has four world titles in the 10,000 between 1993 and 1999.
