COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Maggie Lucas scored the final six points of a game-closing 13-0 run and No. 11 Penn State escaped with a 55-50 victory over South Carolina on Sunday.

Trailing 50-42 with 5:47 left, Penn State (3-1) turned up its defense and held South Carolina without a point the rest of the game.

Lucas, who led the Lady Lions with 18 points, had eight during the run. Her jumper in the lane with 1:24 left gave Penn State the lead for good. She then scored on a driving lay-up the next possession.

Lucas then stole the ball and was fouled, ending any hopes of a South Carolina comeback. She made two free throws to seal the win.

Ariel Edwards was the only other Penn State players in double figures with 10 points.

Ieasia Walker scored 15 to lead South Carolina (3-1), which shot just 25 percent for the game.
