EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — The USS Abraham Lincoln pulls away from its homeport of Naval Station Everett for the final time next month.

For some of the warship’s 3,000 crew members and their families, the departure means a move to Norfolk, Va., where the Lincoln is scheduled for a four-year overhaul.

The aircraft carrier’s commander, Capt. John Alexander, told the Daily Herald (http://bit.ly/tPiiFo ) that sailors on the Abe have become woven into the fabric of the local community. The USS Lincoln, its crew, and their families bring an estimated $100 million into the local economy.

The Lincoln is being deployed to the Middle East before its stop in Virginia. The carrier USS Nimitz is scheduled to tie up in January in Everett.
