Armed man robs convenience store, escapes
Monday, November 21, 2011
Vancouver police converged on the area near Harney Elementary School at 8:45 p.m. Monday after an armed robbery was reported at a convenience store at 2615 E. Evergreen Blvd.
A clerk reported being robbed by a gunman who wore a long yellow coat. The robber was described as white and 190 pounds. He wore gloves and a hat that concealed his hair color.
Several officers rushed to the area around Ash Street with a tracking dog. The dog’s handler at one point yelled the K-9 warning that someone had better come out or he’d release the dog. But the robber was somewhere else by that time.
A neighbor told 911 dispatchers someone had been seen running on Ash. Police also were told someone suspicious was in the backyard of a home in the 2000 block of Sixth Street.
About 9:30 p.m., officers called off the K-9 track and the robber was still at large, a 911 dispatcher said.
