VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — An internal affairs investigation of a Clark County sheriff’s deputy found that he violated policies on firearms storage and other standards when his 3-year-old son accidentally shot himself to death.

The Columbian reports (http://bit.ly/vGMtFj) the office and the county prosecutor’s office released reports Friday in response to a public disclosure request about Det. Ed Owens.

Owens’ son Ryan shot himself Sept. 14, 2010, while playing with his father’s gun at their home in Battle Ground.

Although the shooting was accidental, the reports indicate Owens blamed his 11-year-old stepdaughter and coerced her into making a false confession.

Owens’ lawyer says the internal affairs report is not accurate. Owens denies the allegations. He’s been on leave since last December.
