Letter: Clean up parks for safety of kids
Monday, November 21, 2011
On a recent evening I was walking my dog at Marrion Elementary School Park, which is shared by Vancouver Public Schools and Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation. We crossed the play structure area and as we approached the bottom of the slide, my dog picked up something that turned out to be human waste. Other similar items were seen all over the play area.
I went home and wrote an email to the parks department officials suggesting they clean it up or at least close the area to children. I also left a voice message. As of writing this letter, I have received no response from any official. I am disgusted by the lack of response.
On our walk two days later, I noticed a large group of grade-school children playing on the structures. The area had not been cleaned. I told the parent supervisor about the situation and that person indicated that this was not the first time this has happened on this property. Someone is intentionally doing this. So, parents, if your child becomes ill, the blame might be properly directed at Vancouver-Clark Parks and Recreation.
