Pierce Council balks at $730,000 boat for sheriff
Monday, November 21, 2011
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- The Pierce County Council is balking at the $730,000 price tag for a new saltwater boat for the sheriff's office even though a Homeland Security grant would pay $525,000.
The sheriff's office says the price is justified for a patrol and rescue boat for 235 miles of Puget Sound shoreline.
The News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/srwo8c) the council asked the sheriff's office for a report in December or January, justifying the need and cost.
