‘My Son Pinocchio’ coming to Washougal
The classic tale of an aging toy maker and his puppet, Pinocchio, will come to the stage at Washougal High School’s Washburn Auditorium.
Vancouver-based Christian Youth Theatre, which includes performers from Camas and Washougal, is running the show on several different days in early December.
Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4; and 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11.
School day performances will be 9:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8.
Prices for tickets are $12 for adults, $9 for youth and senior citizens. Tickets for groups of 10 or more are $9. Family Day tickets for the 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 performance are $9.
School day ticket prices are $6 for groups of 10 or more, if purchased in advance. Tickets are $10 at the door.
There will also be a meet Santa, Pinocchio and Geppetto day at the matinee Saturday, Dec. 10.

CHS named to national Advanced Placement Honor Roll
The Camas School District is one of only 367 public school districts in the nation being honored by the College Board with a place on the second annual Advanced Placement Honor Roll.
CHS was named to the list for simultaneously increasing access to Advanced Placement coursework while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of three or higher on AP exams.
“Achieving both of these goals is the ideal scenario for a district’s Advanced Placement program, because it indicates that the district is successfully identifying motivated, academically-prepared students who are likely to benefit most from AP coursework,” a press release stated.
Since 2009, the Camas School District increased the number of students participating in AP from 253 to 413, while relatively maintaining the percentage of students earning scores of three or higher from 83 percent in 2009 to 80 percent in 2011.
A majority of U.S. colleges and universities grant college credit or advanced placement for a score of three or above on AP exams.
“The fact that Camas School District was placed on this honor roll is a testament to the great work that happens not only when students get to high school, but from the very beginning of their educational journey,” said Mike Nerland, superintendent.
“It also speaks to the overwhelming support our students and teachers receive from our community as a whole.”
Parents Night Out benefits Skyridge
A “Parents Night Out” fundraiser will benefit the Skyridge Middle School Parent Teacher Organization.
The 21-and-older event will be held Thursday, Dec. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Camas Meadows Golf Club, 4105 N.W. Camas Meadows Drive. There will be happy hour food, a raffle, drinks and shopping opportunities provided by local vendors.
