Stony Brook defeats winless Columbia 67-53

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — Dave Coley scored 12 points and Bryan Dougher added 11 as Stony Brook held off winless Columbia 67-53 on Tuesday night.

The Seawolves (2-2), who hadn’t played in a week, jumped out to a 12-2 lead and led 32-20 at halftime. After extending the cushion to 18 at 47-29 with 14:05 left, Brian Barbour’s 3-pointer for the Lions with 7:32 to go closed the gap to seven points.

Columbia (0-4) could get no closer as Stony Brook hit 10 of 12 free throws from that point.

The Seawolves shot only 36.2 percent from the field (21 of 58), but made 20 of 26 foul shots and outrebounded the Lions 45-28. Coley was 5 of 9 from the floor.

Columbia made 20 of 49 field goals (40.8 percent), but only 5 of 9 free throws.

Barbour, the only Lions player in double figures, tied his career high with 23 points.
