Hampton tops Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 68-64

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — Darrion Pellum scored 24 points and Hampton rallied in the final 5 minutes to overtake Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 68-64 on Wednesday in the consolation game of the Mayan Division at the Cancun Challenge.

David Bruce added 12 points and Jasper Williams 11 for the Pirates (2-3), who broke a three-game losing streak. Danny Agbelese had a game-best nine rebounds.

Jerome Jones led the Cougars (0-4) with 13 points. Mark Yelovich and Kris Davis scored 10 each.

Southern Illinois-Edwardsville led 32-23 at halftime and was up by 14 points with 12:15 to go. But an 11-0 Hampton run, composed of six points by Williams and five by Pellum, cut it to 54-51 with 10:10 left.

After Yelovich put the Cougars up 62-57 with 5:52 to go, the Pirates outscored them 11-2 the rest of the way, going ahead on Williams’ layup with 1:47 left for a 64-62 edge.
