Jones, Ball State beat IUPUI 69-62 in home opener

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) -- Jarrod Jones scored 26 points as Ball State won its home opener Wednesday night with a 69-62 decision over IUPUI.

Jauwan Scaife added 15 points, and Randy Davis had 13 points and nine assists for the Cardinals (1-2).

Stephen Thomas' 18 points and Marcellus Barksdale's 12 paced the Jaguars (1-4), who dropped their fourth in a row. Christian Siakam grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

IUPUI held a brief early lead, but the Cardinals went up 37-25 at halftime.

Alex Young scored to trim Ball State's lead to 48-41 with 14:29 left before both teams hit a drought. No one scored for the next 4:39 until Scaife buried a 3-pointer with 9:50 to go.

Thomas' jumper cut the gap to 64-62 with 1:22 left, but Ball State hit five straight free throws to seal it.
