Miller, Eastern Illinois hammer Eureka 87-56

CHARLESTON, Ill. (AP) — Joey Miller’s 16 points led Eastern Illinois to an 87-56 victory over Eureka on Wednesday night.

Alfonzo McKinnie scored 14 points and Josh Piper 13 as the Panthers won their third straight game and notched their first 3-1 start since 1998-99. James Hollowell snared a game-best 10 rebounds.

Niko Rivera and Dustin Fritsch led the Division III Red Devils (1-2) with 11 points apiece.

Only one Eastern Illinois starter played more than 16 minutes as the Panthers got 57 points off the bench.

The Panthers outshot the Red Devils 48 percent (31 of 64) to 34 percent (23 of 68) and outrebounded them 45-38.

Eastern Illinois led 8-0 and 13-2 en route to a 45-21 halftime bulge. The Panthers scored the first six points of the second half for a 30-point lead and coasted home.
