Richmond beats Rutgers 58-53 in Cancun

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — Greg Robbins scored 15 points Wednesday night to lead Richmond past Rutgers 58-53 in the Cancun Challenge.

Darien Brothers added 10 points for the Spiders (4-2) in the consolation game of the tournament’s Riviera Division. Richmond raced to a 17-2 lead and held a 30-22 advantage at halftime.

Gilvydas Biruta had 14 points to lead the Scarlet Knights (3-3). Malick Kone had eight points and a game-high eight rebounds for Rutgers, which got within 33-32 with 14:37 to play on Kone’s jumper. But the Spiders went on an 11-2 run to regain control of the game.
