Peterson, Bjoergen win World Cup races in Finland

KUUSAMO, Finland (AP) — Teodor Peterson of Sweden won the 1.4-kilometer sprint on Friday for his first World Cup victory.

Peterson crossed the line in 2 minutes, 50.7 seconds, beating Nikita Kriukov of Russia by 0.5 seconds. Oeystein Pettersen of Norway was 1.0 second back in third.

Three-time Olympic champion Marit Bjoergen of Norway won the women’s 1.2-kilometer race for the second year in a row. Leading from start to finish, she won in 2:50.1.

Charlotte Kalla of Sweden was second, 2.1 seconds behind, followed by Vibeke Skofterud of Noway, 3.9 seconds back.

The men’s 10K and women’s 5K classical races take place Saturday. The overall winners of the mini tour will be decided on Sunday with the men’s 15K and women’s 10K pursuit races.
