ELLENSBURG, Wash. (AP) — Kittitas County Deputy Prosecutor Margie Alumbaugh became a lawyer without going to law school.

She went through the state Bar Association’s law clerk program and was tutored by county Prosecutor Greg Zempel and deputy prosecutors in the office in Ellensburg.

Alumbaugh told Daily Record (http://is.gd/iD4yks) the program is no short cut, but was the best option for her as a single, working mother.

She completed the course work last year, passed the bar exam this year and was formally admitted to the Bar Association Nov. 7.

Alumbaugh prosecutes misdemeanors in district court.
