Norway’s Northug, Bjoergen win WCup ski races

KUUSAMO, Finland (AP) — Norwegian Olympic champions Petter Northug and Marit Bjoergen won freestyle races Saturday in World Cup cross-country.

Northug, a double Olympic gold medalist, dominated the 10-kilometer race from the start and finished in 21 minutes, 49.1 seconds. Italy’s Roland Clara was 23.8 seconds behind and France’s Maurice Manificat was third, 30.1 seconds behind Northug.

In the women’s 5K, Bjoergen won her third consecutive race. The three-time Olympic champion was timed in 11 minutes, 45.3 seconds. She was 11.6 seconds ahead of Sweden’s Charlotte Kalla.

The men’s 15K and women’s 10K classic pursuit races are Sunday.
