Friday, November 25, 2011
Projections of a lot of "Black Friday" holiday shoppers and traffic congestion proved true Thursday night especially for travelers along Interstate 5 in the Woodburn area.
Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers reported a busy Thanksgiving night as they worked with ODOT to handle expected heavy traffic for the annual Woodburn Company Stores 24-hour "Moonlight Madness" sale. Seven OSP troopers assigned to patrol and monitor traffic between 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. issued 82 citations and 48 warnings for various offenses including:
One (1) DUII arrest
Three citations for Recklessly Endangering Another Person
Fifty-eight (58) citations for "Illegal Stopping or Standing" on Interstate 5
Three (3) citations for Driving While Suspended and one citation for No Operators License
One (1) citation for Unlawful Possession of less than an Ounce of Marijuana
Last year, troopers issued 51 citations during the six-hour period.
One 4-vehicle non-injury traffic crash happened at the southbound exit to Woodburn at 7:00 p.m. before troopers arrived to start increased enforcement efforts.
OSP and ODOT urges all drivers to stay alert, be patient, buckle up, pay attention to traffic and road conditions, and have a sober driver operating every vehicle at all times.
