Cascade Highlands — Volunteers spent time on Nov. 19 making improvements to Homestead Park. The volunteers spread new bark chips in the playground and new sand in the sand play areas. Most of the helpers were from the surrounding neighborhoods, but two students came from Skyview High School to help.

The event was a collaboration between the Cascade Highlands Neighborhood Association, the Vancouver Public Works Department and Vancouver’s volunteer coordinator. Cascade Highlands chairwoman Jean Kent and several neighbors worked together to identify the most pressing maintenance issues in their park.

The city and the neighborhood association plan to continue their partnership to address remaining maintenance issues.
