TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A Washington State Patrol sergeant involved in a disciplinary dispute is suing the agency alleging he was treated unfairly, in part, because he is white and Mormon.
David Divis seeks an undisclosed amount of money in the lawsuit filed Nov. 14 in Pierce County Superior Court.
State Patrol spokesman Rob Calkins says the agency is confident it will be exonerated.
The News Tribune reports (http://is.gd/4tn9xB) Divis became the subject of an internal affairs investigation in 2008 after he was accused of complaining that the lazy troopers in his detachment were African-American.
Divis says someone made disparaging remarks about his religion during the investigation and that was treated differently because of race.
He was demoted, won reinstatement earlier this year and is on paid leave for a final decision on discipline.
