Wichita State tops Alabama-Birmingham 68-46

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Garrett Stutz scored a season-high 17 points to lead Wichita State past Alabama-Birmingham 68-46 on Friday night.

The Shockers (3-2) had a big advantage at free throws. They were 23 of 30 from the line while the Blazers (1-3) were 11 of 17.

Alabama-Birmingham was led by Cameron Moore’s 18 points and nine rebounds, both game highs.

UAB took a 21-20 lead late in the first half after slam dunks from Jekore Tyler and Moore. But the Blazers scored just one point in the half’s final four minutes, helping the Shockers secure a 29-22 halftime lead.

After four straight points by Moore early in the second half, Wichita State took control with an 11-2 run.

The Blazers climbed back within single digits, 45-37, after Jordan Swing’s three-point play with 13:15 remaining. But the Shockers scored the next 10 points, six coming on free throws.
