Akron runs away from Detroit 81-63

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Nikola Cvetinovic scored 16 points to help Akron pull away from Detroit in the Zips’ 81-63 win on Saturday night.

Akron (3-2) held a four point lead, 30-26, with 5:13 left in the first half before the Zips went on a 13-6 run to take a 43-32 lead into halftime. Detroit narrowed the lead to eight, 57-49, in the second half but wouldn’t get any closer as Akron reeled off five unanswered buckets to take a 17-point lead, 66-49, with 10:40 remaining to play.

Akron shot well all game, hitting 54.2 percent (32 of 59) from the field and 50 percent (8 of 16) from 3-point range.

Nick Harney scored 15 points and Brett McClanahan added 12 for Akron.

Chase Simon paced Detroit (3-4) with 27 points, making 10 of 15 attempts from the field and three 3-pointers.

The win snaps a two-game losing streak for Akron.
