Covington, Tennessee State down Morgan State 69-64

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Robert Covington scored 23 points to lead Tennessee State over Morgan State 69-64 on Saturday in the final round of the Las Vegas Invitational.

Patrick Miller added 15 points and Kellen Thornton 12 for the Tigers (3-4). Covington had eight rebounds and three blocks.

Kevin Thompson led the Bears (0-6) with 16 points.

Jordan Cyphers’ 3-pointer from the left corner with 1:17 left gave Tennessee State the lead for good at 63-61 after six lead changes and seven ties.

The Bears, who led for most of the second half, had a 45-37 advantage with 11:59 left before Tennessee State took over.

The Bears built a 19-8 first-half lead, but the Tigers responded with a 17-4 run and led 30-28 at halftime.

Tennessee State shot 9 of 16 from 3-point range.
