Murray State tops Southern Miss 90-81 in 2 OTs

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Isaiah Canaan scored 36 points, including seven in the second overtime, and Murray State staved off a furious second-half comeback to defeat Southern Mississippi on Saturday night in the championship game of the Great Alaska Shootout.

The Racers (7-0) shot 60 percent in the first half and opened a 12-point halftime lead, 39-27.

Rashard McGill’s two free throws for the Golden Eagles (4-2) with 42 seconds left in regulation tied the game at 69.

A three-pointer by LaShay Page in the first overtime gave Southern Mississippi its only lead. Canaan scored the only other basket in the first overtime, a three-pointer with 54 seconds left to tie it 72.

Canaan and Stacy Wilson each had seven points in the second overtime. Wilson finished with 13.

Johnson led Southern Miss in scoring with 29.
