VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Jamie Grissim went missing in Vancouver 40 years ago. She’s about to get her first vigil.

The Columbian newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/t5PdH4 ) that Grissim’s sister is joining relatives and friends of another long-missing Vancouver woman, Carolyn Killaby, in planning a vigil for the pair next weekend.

Grissim was a 16-year-old student when she disappeared while walking home from school on Dec. 7, 1971. Authorities believe she was the first victim of a Vancouver man suspected in the deaths of at least six women; her purse was found about a mile from the remains of two other young women.

Killaby was 34 when she went missing in 1995. Dennis Keith Smith was convicted of aggravated murder after traces of her blood were found in his vehicle.

The cases aren’t related, but Grissim’s sister, Lara Starr, is a friend of one of Killaby’s sisters. They say they hope to some day find the remains so they can give the pair proper funerals.
