CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Tashan Newsome scored three of his five points in overtime for Gardner-Webb, including a lay-in with 4 seconds left, to push the Runnin’ Bulldogs over Chattanooga 76-74 Sunday.

Ricky Taylor’s free throws with 1:24 left put the Mocs up 74-73 in OT. But Newsome was fouled pulling down the rebound of Max Landis’ 3-point miss and sank one foul shot to tie the game.

The next time down the court for Gardner-Webb (3-5), following a Mocs miss, Newsome once again grabbed the rebound of a failed Landis 3-pointer and this time laid it in for the final margin in the Chattanooga Tournament. Keegan Bell missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer for Chattanooga (2-4).

Mike Byron led Gardner-Webb with 18 points. Landis, who sank two free throws with 16 seconds in regulation to force OT and scored five points in the extra frame, finished with 17 points.
