COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Kevin Murphy scored 31 points, including a pair of free throws with 13 seconds remaining, as Tennessee Tech barely defeated Wilberforce, an NAIA opponent, 84-83 Sunday.
Jud Dillard added 23 points and nine rebounds for the Golden Eagles (3-3), who fell behind 11-0 at the start against Wilberforce (3-6), a school with fewer than 1,000 students.
Murphy’s free throws gave Tennessee Tech an 84-80 lead.
Darius Foster missed a 3-pointer for Wilberforce with 7 seconds left, but a traveling call against Tennessee Tech’s Zach Bailey, who slipped and fell, gave the ball back to the Warriors. Chris Olafioye’s fadeaway 3-pointer at the buzzer made it a one-point game.
Tennessee Tech came back to lead 49-40 at halftime and 78-67 with 6:13 left, but the Warriors got it to 82-80 as Foster scored six points in a 13-4 run.
Foster led Wilberforce with 31 points.
